Aims of Module
To provide the student with the ability to define the discipline of sociology and understand sociological application in the study of society.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Describe the scope of the sociology imagination.
2 Review one particular issue using the sociological imagination.
3 Make appropriate use of sociological evidence relating to a particular issue

Indicative Module Content
The scope of sociology; Key features of contemporary society; The scope of social theory; Social class and inequality; Gender and inequality; Ethnicity and inequality; Consumerism and its social significance; social media and network society; society and the environment.

Module Delivery
This is a mainly lecture based module with supporting seminars/workshops and student-centred learning. The on-campus activities will be supplemented and supported with online activities where appropriate.
