Aims of Module
To enable the development of relevant knowledge, skills, attitudes and competencies required for effective advanced pharmacy practice.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Evidence the ability to be an adaptable and innovative advanced practitioner capable of developing new knowledge and skills to advance own practice and that of others.
2 Evidence self-direction and originality in tackling and solving problems, and act autonomously and as part of a team in planning and implementing strategies for professional developments.
3 Critically analyse published literature, health policy and current service provision using the principles of needs assessment to make evidence based recommendations for the development, implementation and evaluation of pharmacy led services.
4 Demonstrate highly developed professional communication skills and be able to show an ability to clearly articulate complex concepts to specialist and non-specialist audiences.

Indicative Module Content
Theoretical approaches to effective adult and lifelong learning. Effective approaches to teaching, learning and assessment in healthcare practice. Mentoring and facilitating the development of others in healthcare practice. Local and national policies relating to education and training of healthcare professionals. Aspects of management and leadership including needs assessment in the context of direct patient care services in an advanced area of practice. The planning, delivery and evaluation of services that encompass pharmaceutical care planning, medication review and comprehensive evaluation of evidence relating to the therapeutics for individual patients. Critical evaluation of literature. Research and evaluation protocols. Research and evaluation methodologies. Research governance.

Module Delivery
The module is delivered online with student learning being mainly by guided independent study. Student engagement and active learning is facilitated and encouraged in different ways and includes synchronous webinars, directed reading, completion of set tasks, opportunities to participate in discussion forums and peer-to-peer learning.

Component 1
Type: Coursework Weighting: 50% Outcomes Assessed: 1, 2, 4
Description: A portfolio (maximum 12,000 words) containing a range of written assignments and pieces of evidence linked to core topics within the module.
Component 2
Type: Coursework Weighting: 50% Outcomes Assessed: 3
Description: Generation of a 4000 word service development report for the development, implementation and evaluation of a pharmacist led service.

MODULE PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTOR
Explanatory Text
Component 1 (coursework: portfolio) is equally weighted (50%) with Component 2 (coursework: service development report). A minimum module grade of D is required in both components for a pass. Non-submission of either component will result in an NS grade.
