Aims of Module
To consider the non-clinical factors influencing prescribing decision making.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Demonstrate a critical awareness of evidence relating to non-clinical factors influencing prescribing decision making.
2 Critically evaluate consultations identifying and addressing non-clinical influences on prescribing decision making, including the patient's ideas, concerns and expectations.

Indicative Module Content
Prescribing, evidence based practice, theories of behaviour change, health literacy, psychosocial factors influencing prescribing decision making including accurate and effective communication, building and maintaining effective therapeutic relationships, consultation models, patient demand versus patient need, external influences at individual, local and national level, awareness of own personal beliefs and their influence, complexity.

Module Delivery
Online delivery: self-directed learning supported by web based learning materials, peer to peer learning, participation in synchronous and asynchronous webinars and discussion fora. 'Contact' hours included in 'Indicative workload' represent online webinars.
