On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Describe the environmental factors which influence the occurrence of communicable diseases in humans and animals. |
2 | Explain the contribution of environmental factors to the global burden of non-communicable diseases in humans and animals. |
3 | Explain the effects of climate change and economic inequalities on the global burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases. |
4 | Describe strategies designed to improve population health in humans and animals. |

Occurrence and spread of water-, air- and food-borne microbial and parasitic diseases; zoonoses; spread of microbial and parasitic disease; malaria; cholera; dysentery; polio; HIV and AIDS; ebola virus; zika virus; vaccinations; pollution; sanitation; water-treatment strategies; smoking; asbestos; obesity; starvation; nutrient deficiencies, including endemic iodine deficiency, vitamin A deficiency; iron; alcohol; WHO; UN and UNHCR; FAO; International Red Cross; DEFRA; OIE_WOAH; governmental approaches to promoting health; emerging challenges to population health e.g. antimicrobial resistance (AMR), climate change, biodiversity and urbanisation. |
