Aims of Module | |||

To develop knowledge and understanding of the scientific principles and concepts of pharmacology, pharmacokinetics and evidence-based therapeutics and integration of these into therapeutic plans for individual patients. |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Demonstrate a critical understanding of the fundamentals of pharmacology, pharmacokinetics and evidence-based therapeutics. |
2 | Justify suitable evidence-based therapeutic strategies of commonly occurring disease states. |
3 | Demonstrate the ability to use clinical skills including communication, consultation, data gathering from case notes, and physical assessment to improve health outcomes. |
Indicative Module Content |
---|
Topics include the principles underpinning the pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of therapeutics of the nervous system, acute pain, infectious diseases (including antimicrobials), the immune system and musculoskeletal diseases. Evidence-based therapeutics will include: identification of the goals of therapy, drug selection, adverse drug reactions, side effects, new therapies, monitoring and non-pharmacological management of common diseases in the above systems. |
