Aims of Module
To develop the knowledge, skills and professional behaviours required of a pharmacist in the practice setting.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the legal, professional and ethical requirements that underpin professional practice of a pharmacist in the supply of medicines, appliances and services.
2 Demonstrate appropriate knowledge, skills and professional behaviours required of a pharmacist.
3 Effectively communicate with patients, the public and the wider healthcare team.
4 Reflect on personal and professional aspects of pharmacy practice.

Indicative Module Content
Development of aspects of pharmacy practice relating to the patient, the medicine and the profession, with an emphasis on the safe and legal supply of medicines and development of knowledge, skills and professional behaviours required by a pharmacist. Topics include: developing professional responsibilities required of a pharmacist, including ethical responsibilities; current legislation affecting pharmacy practice; supply of medicines and legal frameworks; public health; pharmaceutical calculations; communication and consultation skills; reflective practice; equity, diversity and inclusion; sustainability.

Module Delivery
Lectures, tutorials, coursework sessions, directed study activities, experiential learning alongside a range of additional Professional Experiences where a student will undertake a minimum of 70 hours of experiential learning on placement.

B When the grade for Component 2(EX1) is an B and a PASS in Component 1(CW1).
C When the grade for Component 2(EX1) is an C and a PASS in Component 1(CW1).
D When the grade for Component 2(EX1) is an D and a PASS in Component 1(CW1).
E When the grade for Component 2(EX1) is an E and a PASS in Component 1(CW1).
F When the grade for Component 2(EX1) is an F and/or unsuccessful attempt (i.e. Fail) at Component 1(CW1).
