Aims of Module
To consolidate the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for the transition to professional pharmacy practice.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Critically evaluate legal, professional and ethical responsibilities which reflect current professional pharmacy practice.
2 Apply an evidence based approach to decision making to ensure safe and effective professional pharmacy practice.
3 Deal with complex situations demonstrating an ability to make sound professional judgements and to communicate these effectively to patients, the public and the wider healthcare team.

Indicative Module Content
Consolidation of aspects of the practice pharmacy relating to the patient, the medicine and the profession with an emphasis on applying an integrated and critical understanding of professional pharmacy practice including appropriate response to a range of complex situations demonstrating safe and effective practice. Preparation for the transition to pre-registration training and future professional practice. Topics include: application of systems of medicines review such as the Chronic Medication Service as a model of professional practice; communication and consultation skills; pharmaceutical calculations; clinical management plans encompassing documentation, systematic implementation, evaluation and response; principles of diagnosis; informed consent; professional judgement; documentation; professional responsibility; writing prescription; patient confidentiality including security of data; reflective practice; awareness of limitations and continuing professional development.

Component 1 (EX1) comprises 100% of the module grade. A minimum of Grade D or better is required to pass the module.
Module Grade Minimum Requirements to achieve Module Grade:
A A: a score of 70% or above is required
B B: a score of between 60-69% is required
C C: a score of between 50-59% is required
D D: a score of between 40-49% is required
E E: a score of between 35-39% is required
F F: a score of less than 35%
NS Non-submission of work by published deadline or non-attendance for examination
