Prerequisites for Module
An undergraduate honours or integrated masters degree in a healthcare related field from a UK university or overseas equivalent, and THREE years post-registration experience and currently working in an area that will allow development and demonstration of competencies in an area of advanced practice or in consultation with the Course Leader.

Aims of Module
To enable the student to demonstrate an ability to a. systematically and comprehensively analyse clinical service provision and make evidence based recommendations for service change in order to improve health. b. plan, deliver and evaluate direct patient care services within a clinical area.
Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

Systematically retrieve and critically review information relating to case studies from a wide variety of sources and incorporate this information into evidence based care plans for individual patients within an advanced area of practice.

In an area of advanced practice, demonstrate expertise in the synthesis, documentation and justification of complex care plans that may arise from critical, balanced consideration of evidence, professional judgement and ethical dilemmas.

Systematically explore and evaluate the application of management and leadership topics to the development, provision and evaluation of services within advanced practice.

| 4. |
Critically review the literature relevant to the provision of a healthcare service within the chosen area of practice.

Critically analyse current service provision using the principles of needs assessment and make evidence based recommendations for development of the clinical services.

| Indicative Module Content
Aspects of management and leadersip including needs assessment in the context of direct patient care services in an advanced area of practice.
The planning, delivery and evaluation of services that encompass: pharmaceutical care planning, medication review and comprehensive evaluation of evidence relating to the therapeutics for individual patients in a chosen advanced area of practice.

Mode of Delivery
This module is delivered in distance learning mode by self-directed investigation and analysis. There is an expectation that students will undertake a review of the literature to determine service provision in the specific area of practice then engage with local stakeholders and key personnel within their area of practice to evaluate local service provision, apply some aspects of needs assessment and identify service development options. In addition the student will be expected to show expertise in provision of direct patient care to an advanced level of practise through evidence e.g. care plans and testimonials.
