Aims of Module
To provide the student with the ability to appraise developing areas in the pharmaceutical sciences.
Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

discuss the principles underlying selected current developments in the pharmaceutical sciences.

critically evaluate the application of these advances to drug discovery, development and delivery.

evaluate scientific literature in the pharmaceutical sciences, including presentation, analysis and appraisal of selected publications.

Indicative Module Content
It is envisaged that the specific topics covered in this module will change as new developments occur. The topics listed below are those considered to be appropriate at the present time: cellular metabolism, protein trafficking, wound healing and management, polyelectrolytes in drug and protein delivery, drug transporters and multi drug resistance, biological use of cystinosis pro-drugs, process of R&D in the pharmaceutical industry.
