Aims of Module
To develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for pharmacy practice.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the legal, professional and ethical requirements that underpin professional practice.
2 Supply medicines, pharmaceutical products and services in accordance with the appropriate legal, professional and ethical requirements.
3 Effectively communicate with patients, the public and the wider healthcare team.
4 Reflect on personal and professional aspects of pharmacy practice.

Indicative Module Content
Development of aspects of practice of pharmacy relating to the patient, the medicine and the profession, with an emphasis on the safe and legal supply of medicines within a range of practice settings and development of communication skills along with professional attributes. Topics include: current legislation affecting pharmacy practice including the Human Medicines Regulations, Misuse of Drugs Act, Weights and Measures, Consumer Protection, Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information Act; supply of medicines including dispensing medicinal products, extemporaneous preparation of products, veterinary products; pharmaceutical calculations; communication and consultation skills; reflective practice and continuing professional development (CPD).

Module Grade Minimum Requirements to achieve Module Grade:
Pass A PASS in C1, C2 and C3.
Fail An UNSUCCESSFUL attempt (i.e. Fail) at C1 and/or C2 and/or C3.
NS Non-submission of work by published deadline or non-attendance for examination
