Aims of Module
To provide a holistic theoretical knowledge base that enables the student to develop their role in participating in the management of people with wounds.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Appraise the physiological pathological processes involved in the healing of wounds and explore the complexities that may affect this.
2 Evaluate approaches to holistic wound assessment, planning of care to manage priorities, alongside the synthesis of treatment options when caring for people with wounds.
3 Critically review the contemporary wound care evidence base and the challenges of person-centred wound care practices.
4 Critically examine the impact of local and national political, health and social care agendas on the management of people with wounds.
5 Critically reflect on wound care practices in clinical care and explore a plan for sharing new wound care knowledge gained.

The patient experience of wounds; Physical and psychological aspects of planned and unplanned wounds; Pathophysiology; Wound healing process; Factors influencing wound healing process; Wound assessment; Wound classification; Acute wounds; Chronic wounds; Wound management products; Product selection; Evidence based practice/research skills; Holistic care; Pharmacological management; Professional and ethical issues relating to wound care; Reflection and practice development.
