Aims of Module
To enable students to analyse the professional role and responsibilities of the midwife within the maternity care team to provide evidence based care.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Analyse legal and ethical principles to contemporary midwifery practice.
2 Critique the principles of research and the influence of evidence on midwifery care provision.
3 Critique leadership and management and the significance of human factors on team performance.
4 Appraise lifelong learning within midwifery and its influence on maternity care provision.

Indicative Module Content
Research critique, evidence-based practice, giving and receiving feedback, scholarship; quality improvement, leadership, management, health and social inequalities, culture, media, policy, legal and ethical responsibilities, humanistic care, lifelong learning, collaborative team working and learning, continuity of care and carer; preparation for practice; research, audit, service evaluation; informed decision making; legal and ethical frameworks; regulatory requirements; empowerment; promoting equality and diversity, career pathways.
