Aims of Module
To prepare healthcare professionals to independently elicit a structured clinical history and perform a clinical minor injuries assessment concentrating on patients presenting with minor injuries.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Critically appraise professional and legal issues relating to the role of the healthcare professional managing minor injuries.
2 Evaluate the implications of the pathophysiological processes for patients presenting with minor injuries.
3 Critically appraise the skills required in consultation, history taking and assessment of patients presenting with minor injuries.
4 Critically analyse the decision-making processes involved in the diagnosis and treatment of minor injuries.
5 Synthesize the concepts of evidence-based practice that underpin the management of minor injuries through critical reflection.

Indicative Module Content
History taking and consultation; Assessment; Anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology relating to commonly presenting minor injuries; Triage, Simulated practice; Clinical reasoning; Decision making; Wound management; Radiography; Evidence based practice; Protocols; Professional and legal issues.
