Aims of Module

To enable students to explore their specialist zone of professional practice in order that they can develop a reflective analysis of their personal and professional development.

Learning Outcomes for Module

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

1. Critically explore the knowledge, evidence and policy agendas associated with their specialist zone of professional practice.
2. Develop a critical reflective analysis related to their specialist zone of professional practice that contributes to the processes of personal and professional development in nurse led practice.
3. Demonstrate how individually negotiated outcomes, as expressed within a learning contract for future personal and professional development, may be achieved.

Learning contract; Reflective analysis; Exploring the knowledge, evidence and policy base; Personal and professional development; Career frameworks.

The focus of the learning contract will relate to the professional/clinical speciality of the student and enable them to explore the pre-requisite knowledge, evidence and policy agendas in relation to their specialist zone of practice.


The content of the module and the associated scheme of work will be individually designed to meet the needs of the student. Content will be clarified through a negotiation process with an academic tutor and managed by the student.
