Aims of Module
To prepare healthcare professionals to assess and support individuals who present with minor illnesses.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Critically appraise holistic assessment in relation to minor illness presentations.
2 Critically evaluate the implications of the pathophysiological process for patients presenting with a minor illness.
3 Critically evaluate the assessment and examination process and the concept of differential diagnosis in relation to minor illness management.
4 Critically analyse decision making processes in relation to the assessment and management of minor illness.
5 Critically reflect on the role of the healthcare professional in relation to evidence based practice, legal and professional issues within the multidisciplinary team.

Indicative Module Content
Consultation and History Taking; Differences across the lifespan; Communication; Pathophysiology of common minor illnesses; Examination and assessment processes; Differential diagnosis; Decision making processes; Triage; Evidence based practice; Management of minor illness; Referral; Medication management; Clinical governance; Professional issues.

Module Delivery
The module will be delivered online, using formative activities, discussion forums and virtual classroom. Students will be provided with access to Clinicalskills.net, an online learning and teaching resource.
