Aims of Module
The enable the student to develop a critical approach to managing the unplanned care of acutely unwell children, young people and their family.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Critically analyse the approaches in the assessment process of the acutely unwell child or young person.
2 Critically evaluate decision making processes in relation to the assessment and management of the acutely unwell child and young person.
3 Critically appraise the ethical, legal and professional issues when caring for the acutely unwell child, young person and their family.
4 Critically analyse the management of the acutely unwell, child or young person.
5 Critically evaluate emerging policies and strategies to manage the acutely unwell child, young person and their families.

Accountability; Applied growth and development; Child and adolescent mental health; Assessment and management of common children and young people acute illness and injury; Ethical, legal, and professional issues; Family centred care; Pain management; Play; Prioritising care; Recognition; Structured approach; Transfer and retrieval process; eHealth.

Module Delivery
This module will be delivered using a blend of teaching methods. This includes discussion forums, quizzes, videos, Panopto and Blackboard Collaborate activities.
