Aims of Module
To enable the student to demonstrate competent professional practice in the context of learning, teaching and assessment and provide evidence of the application and achievement of NMC and HEA standards for teachers of higher education.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Critically evaluate the achievement of NMC (2008) competencies and standards to support learning and assessment in practice.
2 Critically evaluate the achievement of the UKPSF (2011) dimensions at Descriptor 2 level for teaching and supporting learning in higher education in the practice setting.
3 Critically reflect on the application of DEM022 and DEM033 theory through teaching practice in a variety of contexts and environments.
4 Critically evaluate the effectiveness of teaching, learning and assessment through action research whilst taking cognisance of UKPSF (2011) Dimensions areas of activity and NMC (2008) competencies.

Indicative Module Content
NMC (2008) Standards to support learning and assessment in practice; UK Professional Standards Framework (2011); Needs assessment of a range of clinical practice teaching; Portfolio recording of evidence, IT, evaluation of teaching, reflection and feedback on teaching; The concept of work based learning within teaching practice; Action research; The application of approaches to teaching and learning; Facilitation of student learning, learning environments and assessment.

Module Delivery
Work based teaching as negotiated through needs assessment and supported by Supervising Teacher facilitation. A range of methods via face to face and online activities.

Module Requirements
Prerequisites for Module The student must be a registered nurse or midwife, having completed at least 3 years post registration experience and have extended their professional knowledge relevant to their field of practice to at least first degree.
Corequisites for module DEM022 and DEM033
Precluded Modules None.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
The scope and content of the teaching practice will be individualised according to the student's personal needs to enable them to meet the standards required. All students should record their teaching practice (preparation and delivery) to support critical reflection. Students are required to accumulate a minimum of 360 hours over the duration of the award of Postgraduate Certificate. Full time students are expected to complete in 2 years; part time students in 4 years. In either case, students cannot complete in less than one year.
