Aims of Module
To prepare the student to independently undertake a clinical history and examination and, critically explore the impact of pathophysiological processes and their impact on patient care to aid clinical decision making.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Use a systematic approach to autonomously collect data relating to the health and functional history and ability of clients, which will influence the clinical assessment you undertake.
2 Synthesise and document findings from history and clinical examination, identifying abnormal to aid clinical decision making and management.
3 Critically evaluate the implications of the pathophysiological process for patients in your care.
4 Critically explore how pathological processes influence client presentations and the formulation of a differential diagnosis.
5 Critically evaluate treatment options in order to inform decision making throughout patient journeys.

Indicative Module Content
Clinical history taking; Examination of the cardiovascular, respiratory, musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal, neurological and cranial nerves; Acute assessment; Variances of specialities; Documentation of findings; Clinical decision making; Physiology; Introduction to pathophysiology.

Description: Objective structured clinical examination (OSCE).
Component 2
Type: Examination Weighting: 80% Outcomes Assessed: 2, 3, 4, 5
Description: Written examination.

Module Grade Minimum Requirements to achieve Module Grade:
A C1 = Pass (all stations passed); C2 = A
B C1 = Pass (all stations passed); C2 = B

D C1 = Pass (all stations passed); C2 = D
E C1 = Refer (for one more stations); C2 = E. If a Refer or an E grade is achieved for one component, only the referred piece needs to be resubmitted/resat.
F C1 = Refer (for one more stations); C2 = F. If a Refer or an F grade is achieved for one component, only the referred piece needs to be resubmitted/resat.
