Aims of Module
To enable the student to develop the ability to integrate and apply the required theories, principles, concepts and skills and values of specialist practice in district nursing.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Critically assess the health and social needs and risk factors for clients and social groups reviewing the tools and processes involved.
2 Apply strategies and skills to improve health and to address care needs and inequalities.
3 Collaborate and co-operate within an inter-disciplinary and multi-agency team using effective communication skills.
4 Critically appraise risk management approaches evident within the community healthcare context.
5 Examine their developing knowledge, skills and values in specialist practice in district nursing.

Indicative Module Content
The student will critically reflect on individual development needs and apply core knowledge, skills and values required in a contemporary district nursing context including:- Health needs assessment; Organisational approach to district nursing practice; Advanced communication; Multi-agency working; Interdisciplinary team working; Risk management; Teaching and learning; Information technology; Public health; Taught practice.
