Aims of Module
To enable the student to review and develop a critical understanding of the philosophical and theoretical basis and required skills within a specific field of public health nursing.
Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

Discuss the principles that underpin health visiting and school nursing practice, reviewing related theory and concepts.

Explore specialist strategies, interpersonal skills and evidence to promote the health and social well-being of populations in different settings.

3. |
Critically analyse systematic and multi-agency ways to plan and address local health issues, inequalities, social exclusion and facilitate public involvement.

4. |
Examine ways to influence policies, services and programmes directed at and impacting on the health and social well-being of populations
|
5. |
Critically reflect on the interpersonal and communication skills required to ethically implement, lead on, and manage public health nursing interventions within specific field of practice.

Indicative Module Content
Principles of health visiting and school nursing, application of related public health theory and concepts to specific field, 'well' populations, salutogenesis, empowerment, advocacy, partnership working, participation, public involvement, networking, lobbying, policy influencing skills, principles of community development, settings e.g. home, schools, multi-disciplinary/agency project working, project planning theory, leadership, evidence based practice, reflection, communication, education theory, universal services, targeted service, statutory and voluntary sectors.
