Aims of Module

To enable the student to explore, analyse and appraise leadership theory and practice within the context of Specialist Community Public Health Nursing.

Learning Outcomes for Module

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

1. Critcally examine leadership theories within the public health context.
2. Review the policy drivers shaping contemporary leadership in public health nursing.
3. Discuss the leadership skills required to successfully lead multi-agency and multi-professional teams.
4. Explore the factors that can impact on dynamics and functioning of the multi-agency / multi-professional team.
5. Critically reflect on the range of skills required to lead public health nursing practice.

Indicative Module Content

Leadership theories, Leadership styles, Leadership in action, Group dynamics, Team building, Change management, Partnership working, Multi-agency, Multiprofessional working, Motivation, Resistance, Contemporary public health policy, Global context of public health, Negotiation, Self-awareness, Critical reflection of self and others.
