Aims of Module
To enable the student to develop the application of theoretical knowledge and skills into the practice environment in accordance with HCPC standards with an emphasis on disaster management, leadership and decision-making, in a remote and hazardous environment.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Effectively demonstrate assessment and patient management pertinent to remote and hazardous environment paramedic practice with an emphasis on leadership and decision-making.
2 Plan, deliver and evaluate care delivery pertinent to remote and hazardous environment paramedic practice with an emphasis on leadership and decision making.
3 Relate personal and professional development pertinent to remote and hazardous environment paramedic practice with an emphasis on leadership and decision-making.
4 Evaluate appropriate management strategies to deal with potential challenges to individual resilience.
5 Evaluate evidence-informed practice in relation to remote and hazardous environment paramedic practice with an emphasis on leadership and decision making.

Indicative Module Content
Practice focused on clinical assessment, interventions and management of a range of conditions induced by extremes of temperature, pressure, environmental disasters, entrapment, epidemic, distance from definitive care; principles of incident and disaster management; practical leadership and team working; decision making models, gathering evidence, clinical reasoning and ethics of decision making, critical thinking, note taking, report writing; accountability, autonomy, legal and ethical issues, delegation, prioritisation, clinical governance, risk assessment, change management, clinical and operational management; performance review using simulated scenarios.
