Aims of Module | |||

To provide the student with an understanding of the responsibilities and roles of the leader/manager in the disaster setting and develop their clinical management leadership skills. |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Discuss the nature of disasters and major incidents and the challenges these present to delivering and managing effective paramedic practice. |
2 | Discuss the objectives of strategic and tactical management. |
3 | Critically discuss the clinical management of conditions experienced in challenging environments. |
4 | Effectively demonstrate the skills required for reporting after a real or simulated disaster or critical incident. |
Indicative Module Content |
---|
Clinical assessment, interventions and management of a range of conditions induced by: extremes of temperature, pressure, environmental disasters, entrapment, epidemic and distance from definitive care; principles of incident management and disaster management; practical leadership and team-working; gathering evidence, note taking, report writing. |

This module will be delivered using a blended approach of online and face-to-face methods. The student will be expected to attend 5 days of face-to-face teaching at a designated site. |
