Aims of Module
This short course aims to prepare the nurse for part one of the Nursing and Midwifery Council register so they can return to their field of practice: adult, mental health, children and young people, in a safe and confident manner.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Appraise their own learning needs and formulate an action plan to address these.
2 Use evidence to reflect on how to improve an aspect of patient care.
3 Achieve Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) competencies, essential skills and for adult nurses EU directives, to allow verification of competence for return to the NMC register.
4 Achieve mandatory health and safety requirements essential for their field of clinical practice.

Indicative Module Content
Library and study skills; Evidence based practice; Reflective practice and action planning; Health and Safety mandatory requirements including relevant legislation: fire safety, moving and handling, basic life support, violence and aggression, risk assessment, child and vulnerable adult protection; A range of clinical skills that include: medicine management and the safe calculation of medicine doses; Other NMC essential skills and core competencies: care compassion and communication, organisational aspects of care, infection prevention and control, nutrition and fluid management.

Module Delivery
The module will be delivered by blended learning and will include online theory, 6 mandatory study days and a period in clinical practice. The placement in clinical practice will be a minimum of 300 hours. The duration of the period in practice will depend upon the length of time since the student's registration has lapsed.

Prerequisites for Module Previous Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration on part one of the register.
Corequisites for module None.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
Actual placement hours for professional, statutory or regulatory body: normally, for students with a lapse of registration up to 12 years, the requirement is to undertake at least 300 practice hours over an 8 week period. The expectation is to complete a 37.5 hour week which will include 12 hour shifts, weekend and night duty, a minimum of 2 night shifts, up to a maximum of 4 night shifts within the 8 week period. Part time clinical practice can be arranged on an individual basis. Normally, for students with a lapse of registration of more than 12 years, the requirement is to undertake at least 450 practice hours over a 12 week period. The expectation is to complete a 37.5 hour week which will include 12 hour shifts weekend and night duty, a minimum of 2 night shifts, up to a maximum of 4 night shifts within the 12 week period.Part time clinical practice can be arranged on an individual basis.
