Aims of Module
The aim of the module is to prepare nurses, midwives and Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (SCPHN) to be eligible to remain on or re-enter the Nursing and Midwifery (NMC) register.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Appraise their lifelong learning and professional development through action planning to re-gain confidence and competence to meet the NMC standards of education/proficiency relevant to their profession (nursing, midwifery and in addition if required, specialist community public health nursing.)
2 Demonstrate mandatory health and safety requirements essential for their clinical practice.
3 Demonstrate achievement of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Standards of Proficiency for Registered Nurses or the Standards of Proficiency for Midwives and Standards of Proficiency for Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (SCPHNs) where required.
4 Justify person and family centred care provided using reflection and appropriate evidence.
5 Critique current evidence including: legislation, guidelines, codes of practice and policies relevant to their own professional practice.

Indicative Module Content
Research skills: literature searching and reviewing; using evidence-based practice; library and study skills; reflective practice and action planning; portfolio development; appraising legislation, guidelines, codes of practice and policies relevant to professional practice. Work-based learning: person and family centred care; communication; pharmacology and medication management; digital and technological literacy; professional indemnity; continuous professional development; good health and character; fitness to practise. Overview of all NMC requirements, including the Code (2018) and Revalidation (2019). Health and Safety mandatory requirements including relevant legislation: fire safety, moving and handling, basic life support, violence and aggression, risk assessment, child and vulnerable adult protection; and numeracy for medicines management. A range of communication, relationship management skills and nursing procedures as outlined in the Future nurse; standards of proficiency for registered nurses (NMC 2018), (annexe a and b) or Standards of proficiency for midwives (NMC 2019) (domain 6); and in addition, if required, the Standards of proficiency for specialist community public health nurses (NMC 2004).

Module Delivery
The module will be delivered by blended learning: mainly online theory with the addition of mandatory face-to face/virtual study days and a period in clinical practice. The use of external online resources will be mandatory and include SafeMedicate and clinicalskills.net.

Module Requirements
Prerequisites for Module Previous Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration as a nurse or midwife and meet overseas visa requirements. Evidence of achievement of the mandatory health and safety requirements as defined by the School and practice partners.
Corequisites for module None.
Precluded Modules None.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
A period of appropriate practice placement will be provided as approved by the AEI. The placement provided will reflect the student's area of intended professional practice. Full and part-time placements will be provided, with a minimum of 22.5 hours to a maximum of 40 hours per week, inclusive of breaks, being expected. Normally a full range of shifts will be experienced including nights and weekends. The duration of the period in clinical practice will be decided by the Approved Educational Institution (AEI), in discussion with the student, and clinical partners. This would normally be 150-450 hours which can be completed full or part time, however more hours can be negotiated depending on individual need. Those who wish also to be registered on part three of the register will also complete the Standards of proficiency SCPHN as well as either the Nurse or Midwifery standards.
