To enable the student to develop and enhance their clinical assessment, judgement and decision making skills when working in remote environments. |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Relate the aetiology and pathophysiology of selected clinical presentations in remote healthcare. |
2 | Review relevant knowledge of pharmacology for the major drug groups used pertinent to your specific remote environment. |
3 | Conduct a comprehensive physical and mental health assessment. |
4 | Interpret a variety of diagnostic tests and procedures based on initial clinical assessment findings. |
5 | Justify decision making based on clinical assessment findings to formulate an action plan. |
Indicative Module Content |

Anatomy & Physiology of body Systems; Related pathophysiology; Pharmacology, pharmacology of major drug groups; History taking and clinical examination of cardiac, respiratory, abdominal, endocrine, musculoskeletal, neurological, eyes and ears, nose and throat systems; ABCDE assessment; Mental health assessment; Interpretation of relevant diagnostic tests and procedures; Clinical judgement and decision making; Consultation skills; Referral from remote environment to appropriate centre; Communication skills (SBAR); Telemedicine; Distance support; Organisational protocols and standing orders; Clinical management plans. |

The module is delivered online with 4 contact days dedicated to teaching, learning & assessment of clinical assessment demonstrations, clinical practice and clinical assessment carried out in a simulated sick bay/remote environment. |
