Aims of Module
To prepare the healthcare professional to assess and support individuals presenting with minor illnesses.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Explore how to undertake a holistic assessment in consultation with individuals and carers.
2 Discuss the pathophysiology of commonly presenting minor illnesses.
3 Evaluate the assessment and examination process and the concept of differential diagnosis in relation to minor illnesses.
4 Analyse decision making processes in relation to treatment of minor illnesses.
5 Appraise the role of the healthcare professional in relation to evidence based practice, legal and professional issues, within the multidisciplinary team.

Indicative Module Content
Consultation and History Taking; Differences across the lifespan; Communication; Pathophysiology of common minor illnesses; Examination and assessment processes; Differential diagnosis; Decision making processes; Triage; Evidence based practice; Management of minor illness; Referral; Medication management; Clinical governance, Professional issues.

Module Delivery
The module will be delivered online, using formative activities, discussion forums and virtual classroom. Students will be provided with access to Clinicalskills.net, an online learning and teaching resource.
