Aims of Module
To enable the student to increase their knowledge and understanding of renal nursing.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Recognise and discuss the epidemiology and pathophysiology of renal disease.
2 Review the current literature on treatment modalities and examine fundamental issues relating to renal disease.
3 Discuss the acute and long-term effects of renal replacement therapy.
4 Explore the wider psycho-social implications of the effects of treatment.

Epidemiology; Pathophysiology of acute, intrinsic and post-renal disease; Investigations; Collection and interpretation of data; Haemodialysis; Haemofiltration; Peritoneal dialysis; Transplantation; Palliative care; Conservative management; Pharmacological management; Side-effects; Complications; Patient's journey of care - chronic; Patient's journey of care - acute; Multidisciplinary team.
