Aims of Module
To enable the student to further develop their nursing practice in line with the performance expectations for SCQF level 9 so that it is professional, safe, effective and person-centred; and making progress towards full achievement of the NMC competencies for entry to the professional register.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Demonstrate achievement of the NMC competencies at SCQF level 9 as specified within the performance expectations set out within the OAR.
2 Demonstrate achievement of the NMC defined essential skills.
3 Reflects upon the application of core professional values across in a range of practice environments.
4 Applies principles of leadership, management and teamworking in the delivery of safe, effective, person-centred care.

Indicative Module Content
The 34 generic and 22 field specific NMC standards of competency for entry to the professional register. These sit within the domains of Professional values, Communication and interpersonal skills, Nursing practice and decision-making and Leadership, management and team working. The NMC defined essential skills which sit within 5 clusters; care compassion and communication, organisational aspects of care, infection prevention and control, nutrition and fluid management, medicines management. Medicines management includes the administration of medicines and a range of numerical skills to be demonstrated in practice. Mental Health Nursing Practice.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
This is a nursing practice module. Practice learning is carried out by BN and BN Hons students in a practice placement environment at 37.5 hours per week over 11 weeks (412.5 hours). In order to be graded, the student must achieve a minimum of 275 hours in the practice placement. In addition, within practice learning the named mentor or another suitably qualified professional will sign off essential skills and competencies which must all be achieved by end of each practice module in stages 1 and 2. In stage 3, students should aim to achieve all essential skills cluster (ESC) competencies in each stage 3 practice module but as a minimum should achieve 80% in each practice module. Each ESC competency must be achieved at least once during stage 3.
