Aims of Module
To enable the student to value and evaluate the midwife's role as a professional and sensitive carer, meeting women’s individualised needs within challenging contemporary contexts.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Analyse the midwife's professional role, responsibility and autonomy as a member of the maternity care team providing care for women with a range of contemporary needs.
2 Appraise the provision of midwifery care within contemporary societies and contexts, using national and/or international examples.
3 Assess the impact of sensitive midwifery care on the support for women as individuals with particular needs within contemporary society.
