Aims of Module
To enable the students to appraise relevant evidence and make appropriate clinical decisions responding promptly to additional care needs of women and newborn infants.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Appraise current public health policies to improve health for women and newborn infants with additional care needs.
2 Apply innovation and evidence-based principles to improve the health of women and newborn infants with additional care needs.
3 Analyse interdisciplinary care to support women and newborn infants with additional care needs ensuring continuity of care.
4 Demonstrate evidence informed midwifery skills to respond promptly to signs of compromise and deterioration in the woman, fetus, and newborn infant.

Additional care needs; woman centred care; complications in pregnancy and childbirth; collaborative team learning and working; interdisciplinary team working; clinical decision making; medicines management; evidence informed practice; sensitive midwifery care; perinatal mental health; social vulnerability, inclusion and exclusion; learning disabilities; equalities and inequalities; racism and unconscious bias in maternity care; LGBTI in maternity care; pregnancy loss and end of life care; risk assessment; deteriorating woman and newborn infant; clinical skills; wellbeing in the workplace.
