Aims of Module
To enable students to critique the professional role and responsibilities of the midwife and evaluate maternity care provision to promote positive health outcomes for women and families.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Illustrate accountability and autonomous practice as the lead professional for midwifery care and advocate for women and families.
2 Critique the role of the midwife as an effective role model and leader, working with women, families and the multi-disciplinary teams within maternity care.
3 Appraise evidence and quality improvement methods to enhance contemporary maternity care service provisions.
4 Support and supervise students in the provision of midwifery care, promoting reflection, providing feedback and evaluating performance.
