Aims of Module
To enable students to apply universal, safe and effective midwifery care for women and newborn infants.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Analyse women and families lived experiences and strategies to enable access to public health, social care and community resources as needed.
2 Analyse the role of the midwife as lead carer within interdisciplinary and multiagency team promoting continuity of care for all women and families.
3 Explain the principles of safe and effective administration and optimisation of medicines.
4 Demonstrate evidence informed midwifery skills to provide individualised care and recognise when referral to the multidisciplinary team is necessary.

Indicative Module Content
Physiological processes of pregnancy and birth; screening and diagnostic tests; recognition and care planning; collaborative interprofessional working; genetics and genomics; Pharmacology; fetal development; individualised care; examination of the newborn; newborn and early child development, infant feeding, relationship building and positive family attachment; mental health and wellbeing; public health; health protection; health promotion; women's lived experiences; continuity of carer; parenthood education; sexual and reproductive health; psychology; sociology; clinical skills
