Aims of Module
To enable the student to develop the application of theoretical knowledge and skills into the practice environment in accordance with HCPC standards, with an emphasis on medical and surgical emergencies.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Demonstrate appropriate and effective assessment and initial patient management with emphasis on medical and surgical emergencies.
2 Demonstrate appropriate planning and professional, effective management with emphasis on medical and surgical emergencies.
3 Evidence personal and professional development with emphasis on paramedic assessment skills and interventions; medical and surgical clinical experiences.
4 Reflect on the placement experience to identify potential challenges to their resilience.
5 Apply evidence informed practice in relation to medical and surgical emergencies.

Indicative Module Content
Clinical skills such as: patient assessment, communication, history taking, advanced cardiac management, cardiovascular assessment, ECG rhythm acquisition and interpretation, vascular access, advanced life support, therapeutics, referral pathways, acute medical and surgical presentations; evidence informed practice.
