Aims of Module | |||
---|---|---|---|
To further develop the application of the student's knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, and the skills required of a paramedic in patient assessment and core clinical interventions. |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Explain the interrelationships that occur between different body systems and how these influence patient presentations. |
2 | Demonstrate professional, appropriate and safe patient assessment skills underpinned by clinical reasoning. |
3 | Effectively apply and justify technical Paramedic skills in the management of patients. |
4 | Discuss key aspects of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of drugs pertinent to Paramedic practice. |
5 | Discuss the evidence supporting key aspects of Paramedic interventions. |
Indicative Module Content |
---|
Interrelationships between the human systems including respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, musculoskeletal, gastro-intestinal, urinary; history taking and communication; advanced airway mangagement and techniques; vascular access; ventilators; cardiovascular assessment; electrocardiography rhythmn recognition and 12 lead acquisition; pharmokinetics; pharmodynamics; working within the scope of practice using the Paramedic Formulary; assessment and reasoning skills. |

This module will be delivered using a blended approach of online and face-to-face. The student will be expected to attend for 2 blocks of 5 days of face-to-face learning at a designated site. |
