On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Outline the planning of nursing care for common physical and mental problems in acute/unscheduled and long term conditions using best evidence. |
2 | Explain methods of assessment in the recognition of clinical physical and cognitive deterioration in those at risk. |
3 | Discuss the safe application of invasive and non-invasive interventions related to current medical/surgical procedures. |
4 | Apply understanding of a range of clinical and therapeutic skills to inform therapeutic intervention in adult nursing. |
Indicative Module Content |

Common physical and mental health problems - from: cardiovascular, endocrine, genetic, immune, infection, gastrointenstinal, haematological, hepatic, musculoskeletal, neurologic, oncological, renal, respiratory, special senses, mental health - anxiety, addiction and substance misuse; Diagnostics, tests and their meaning; Suction; Wound management; Male and female Urinary Catheterisation; Assessment of those at risk of deterioration; Pain management relevant to adult nursing practices; Partnership working and the promotion of self care with people with acute and long term conditions; Main drug groups; Learning disabilities; Dementia. |
