Aims of Module | |||

To enable the student to develop knowledge and skills in relation to the assessment and management of common medical and surgical emergencies or trauma within healthcare teams. |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Explain the relationship between a wide range of clinical presentations and the relevant pathophysiology/ psychopathology. |
2 | Demonstrate appropriate clinical assessment and documentation. |
3 | Demonstrate in a simulated environment, effective and appropriate interventions pertinent to a wide range acute of illnesses and injury. |
4 | Discuss how environmental and socio-economical factors may impact of ill-health and trauma. |
5 | Explore the role of the paramedic within the uni-professional and inter professional team, acknowledging the HCPC standards of proficiency and standards of conduct, performance and ethics. |

Evidence based practice; Professional behaviours; Teamworking; Multidisciplinary teams; Self-management; Human factors; Assessment and history taking; Referral pathways; Management of the following: pain, allergies, anaphylaxis, fluid maldistribution, sepsis, shock, acute coronary syndromes; 12 lead ECG interpretation; Cerebrovascular accidents; Seizures; Diabetic emergencies; Acute abdomen, gastro intestinal and urinary emergencies; Respiratory conditions; Responding to self-harm and suicidality; Individuals in mental distress; Poisoning; Foreign body obstruction; Environmental emergencies; Abnormal psychology/mental health issues; Emergencies in pregnancy and childbirth; Peri arrest management; Children and young people acute and deterioration management; Vulnerable patient groups; Advance cardiac life support; Environmental factors and special circumstances in resuscitation; Paediatric and neonatal life support; Recognition of death; End of life care; Do not resuscitate; Living will; Breaking bad news. |
