Aims of Module
To enable the student to develop their understanding of effective woman centred care, and apply this knowledge to informed, reflective and proficient midwifery practice.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Illustrate how communication and interpersonal skills can impact on professional relationships and team working within maternity care.
2 Explain how the concepts of lifelong learning and empowerment can influence maternity care.
3 Examine the effectiveness of holistic, woman centred midwifery care throughout the childbearing continuum in a variety of contexts.
4 Select appropriate clinical midwifery skills required for a variety of contexts including emergency situations.
5 Explain the role of evidence informed practice within midwifery and maternity care.
