To enable the student to analyse and apply relevant theory for professional and sensitive midwifery care within contemporary society. |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Illustrate the professional role and responsibility of the midwife in providing care for women with a range of needs found within contemporary maternity care. |
2 | Recognise how legal and ethical obligations of the midwife's role can contribute to effective maternity care for women with a range of contemporary needs. |
3 | Explain key sociological and psychological agendas which impact on current maternity care. |
4 | Examine the scope of sensitive midwifery care to support women as individuals with particular needs. |
