Aims of Module
To enable the student to analyse and apply relevant theory for professional and sensitive midwifery care within contemporary society.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Illustrate the professional role and responsibility of the midwife in providing care for women with a range of needs found within contemporary maternity care.
2 Recognise how legal and ethical obligations of the midwife's role can contribute to effective maternity care for women with a range of contemporary needs.
3 Explain key sociological and psychological agendas which impact on current maternity care.
4 Examine the scope of sensitive midwifery care to support women as individuals with particular needs.
