Aims of Module
To develop the student's knowledge and understanding of the processes, legislation and regulations governing health care.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Demonstrate an applied understanding of the key principles of equality and diversity.
2 Define 'a vulnerable person' and the initial processes required to ensure their protection, including reporting mechanisms.
3 Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of key aspects of personal and organisational health and safety.
4 Demonstrate an understanding of the principles and practice of reflection in identifying own learning needs in relation to academic skills and professional practice.

Indicative Module Content
HCPC Standards of Conduct and student guide; professional performance and ethics; equality and diversity; legal requirements; role of organisations; vulnerability and protection of adults and children; safeguarding; reporting mechanisms; conflict awareness; understanding personal risk; reducing risk; health and safety in the workplace; reporting mechanisms; relevant legislation; academic skills: library services, basic writing and study skills, reflection; information technology; social media; confidentiality.

Module Delivery
The module will be delivered using a blended approach of online, face-to-face methods and clinical practice. The student will be expected to attend for 3 days of face-to-face contact at a designated site.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
The student is required to produce a total of 375 hours logged in practice to achieve the module. NB 375 placement hours are to be completed over modules NU1995 & NU1996.
