Aims of Module
To enable the student to develop knowledge, awareness and sensitivity in providing culturally competent healthcare.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Understand the concept of health and wellbeing as experienced by a diverse range of individuals, communities and cultures in society.
2 Demonstrate an understanding of the physical, mental and societal factors that influence health and impact upon health inequalities across the lifespan.
3 Understand the challenges of global health and their impact upon health and wellbeing in populations and individuals.
4 Demonstrate awareness of culturally sensitive and professionally appropriate attitudes, values and beliefs to address the public health care needs of cultural groups.

Health; Gender; World Health Organization; UNICEF; Global healthcare challenges; Global healthcare policy; Environment; Economic factors; Kinship and social factors; Education; Diversity; Inequalities in health; Cultural competence in health care in specific cultural groups in society e.g. travellers, ethnic minorities, children and young people; Transcultural models providing systematic approaches to nursing practice e.g. Papadopoulos, Leininger.
