Aims of Module
To enable the student to establish foundational knowledge and skills to provide effective, holistic, woman centred midwifery care.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Understand the need for effective communication skills in midwifery care.
2 Identify the concepts of lifelong learning and empowerment in relation to the midwife's role.
3 Describe the scope and role of holistic, woman centred midwifery care throughout the childbearing continuum in a variety of contexts.
4 Select examples of appropriate foundational clinical midwifery skills.
5 Summarise the role of evidence informed practice within midwifery care.
