Aims of Module
To enable students to explain and critically assess legal issues in respect of intellectual property rights in a changing global environment.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Evaluate the statutory, common law and international legal framework of as well as the philosophical justifications for intellectual property.
2 Critically analyse the impact of digital technology on intellectual property and the creator-owner-user triangle.
3 Contrast and compare national, regional and international IP regulation.
4 Appraise the influence of EU and international legal developments beyond the traditional intellectual property regime into new policy areas.

Indicative Module Content
IP law and policy in the UK and selected comparator jurisdictions; copyright & neighbouring rights; patents, trade marks; regional and international regulatory attempts.

Module Delivery
Lectures; seminars; group discussions; group activities; presentations; directed reading/research; case studies; guest speakers from practice and academia.
