Aims of Module | |||
---|---|---|---|
To equip students with skills and knowledge about the uses of technology in legal practice at the operation, tactical and strategic level which they may require during the legal traineeship and beyond; to develop knowledge and understanding of the uses and limits of technology in legal practice - including case management systems used in the legal sector and regulation of data held by legal firms; To develop an awareness and understanding of the regulatory requirements of technology, including cyber security and of data management and analytics and its capacity to inform and support decision making in respect of client services and market growth. |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Display the digital literacy required for the legal profession of the core operations and of commonly used software and case management systems |
2 | Interpret analytical data to ascertain business preferences and understand how this informs decision making as it affects legal advice given to clients as well as marketing, direction and firm growth. |
3 | Display an understanding of the regulatory framework for the exchange and communication of data and information in the law firm context - including the requirements of cyber security. |
4 | Display an understanding of the uses and limits of technology in the practice of law |
Indicative Module Content |

Creation of spreadsheets,use of case management systems,application of GDPR in case studies,group work to set up effective email policy to comply with LSOS rules and prevent cybercrime;use data captured by social media and management systems to inform decisions for model firm client services and growth. |
