To develop skills in relation to the conduct, funding and resolution of all matters in respect of the Children's Hearing System in Scotland and to include Permanency and Adoption Orders |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | 1.Demonstrate an understanding of the Children's Hearing System from point of referral to termination of orders to include appeals process and the role of the solicitor in the Hearing, representation of children and permanency and adoption procedure. |
2 | Demonstrate an understanding of how to conduct a Children's Hearing, make oral submissions in an Appeal, negotiate grounds of referral with a Reporter to the Children's Hearing. |
3 | Demonstrate an understanding of how to draft an Appeal to the Sheriff Court against a Children's Hearing decision, draft a legal aid form, draft a letter to the Children's Hearing setting out views. |
4 | Demonstrate an understanding the role and duties of a social worker, solicitor and Safeguarder in relation to this type of work. |
Indicative Module Content |

This module will cover Children's Hearing legislation and procedure, Appeals and Orders involving Children, preparation and conduct of Hearing and Appeal therefrom,compulsory measures and role of solicitor, permanence and adoption, legal aid. |

The module is assessed by way of a single assessment component weighted at 100%. Additionally there is a participation requirement which is assessed on a pass/fail basis. Relative to the participation requirement each student is normally required to pass such online activities as identified in the module. Non-submission or non-completion of the competencies will result in an NS grade. An overall minimum grade D is required to pass the module. | |
