Aims of Module
To develop a critical understanding of the law applicable to marine and coastal developments (wind, wave, and tidal) in the UK and Scotland; and to critically examine the key legal, policy and regulatory instruments, and roles of key stakeholders (Crown estate, local government and communities)

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Critically appraise and discuss the relevant developments relating to marine and coastal law
2 Critically discuss and evaluate legal developments of marine and coastal law
3 Critically examine the legal and policy developments concerning the marine environment, and offshore energy sector with specific reference to the UK Continental Shelf, and selected jurisdictions
4 To examine the relevant legal regime for coastal and marine law including national, regional and international, and relevant case law

Indicative Module Content
Introduction to Marine and Coastal law; International law of the sea; Legal aspects of the Territorial Sea and the Continental Shelf; Offshore Developments (Wind, Wave and Tidal); Regulation of marine and coastal developments (Role of the Regulators including the Crown Estate); Marine Pollution; Legal aspects of Stakeholder/community engagement; Case Study: An Offshore Project (Wind/Wave/Tidal);

Module Delivery
The module will be delivered Online (DL); and (FTF) Blended Digitally enhanced format, including on campus workshops, pre-recordings, presentations, group discussions, and online supervised and interactive sessions, forum discussions using moodle.
