Aims of Module
To provide students with an understanding of key legal concepts and processes related to UK immigration law and current issues in the rapidly changing dynamics of UK immigration law.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Demonstrate sound knowledge and understanding of the history and sources of UK immigration law.
2 Critically analyse the concept of nationality, citizenship and right of abode.
3 Critically appraise the requirements for applications made under the Immigration Rules and the rights and obligations of holders/applicants.
4 Critically appraise the system of immigration control in the UK.
5 Demonstrate sound understanding of the concept of free movement under EU law.

Indicative Module Content
Common Definitions; History and sources of UK Immigration Law; Nationality, Citizenship and Right of Abode; Points-based System 1; Visitors and Other Categories; Immigration Appeals; Deportation and Removal; Free Movement Under EU Law, Asylum and International Protection; Immigration Regulation in the UK; Providing Immigration Advice.

Module Delivery
This is a lecture and seminar based module. Lectures provide core module content. Seminars develop associated higher level skills through student centered learning.
