Aims of Module
To provide the student with the ability to analyse theories relating to offending behaviour and to examine the extent of crime, representations and perceptions of crime and specific areas of offending behaviour.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Critically evaluate criminological theories and their impact on criminal justice and social policy.
2 Assess the extent of crime and how crime is represented in the media
3 Analyse specific areas of offending behaviour.

Indicative Module Content
Classical and contemporary criminological theories, recording and representation of crime,offender profiling, specific areas of offending behaviour such as female and juvenile offenders.

Module Delivery
This is a lecture and seminar based module. Lectures provide core module content. Seminars develop associated higher level skills through student centred learning.
