Aims of Module
To develop the analytical and critical skills of students by detailed examination of the relevant legislation, court decisions, treaties and other instruments governing intellectual property law for the UK, Europe and at international level. To develop students' writing and oral skills via class discussion, presentations and written assessments.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Critically evaluate and analyse the rules and their underlying policy reasons for intellectual property law
2 Critically discuss some of the challenges facing aspects of IP law stemming from developments in digital technology.
3 Engage with significant legal problems and academic arguments and select appropriate methods for investigating and critically evaluating them.
4 Plan and undertake tasks with limited guidance, and reflect critically on the learning process.

Indicative Module Content
Copyright law; trademark law; design law; contemporary areas of interest in IP law.

Module Delivery
This is a lecture and seminar based module. Lectures provide input into critical areas of IP law to stimulate thought and discussion. Seminars develop associated higher level legal writing, research and soft skills through student-centred learning.
