Aims of Module
To enable students to develop an in-depth knowledge of the origins and ongoing process of the UK's departure from the EU - i.e. "Brexit" and the 2016 Referendum; to facilitate a thorough understanding of the legal aspects and impacts of Brexit; to enable and promote critical assessment of the Brexit withdrawal process; to conduct analysis of Art 50 TEU and the Miller judgment; to examine the impact and consequences of Brexit on selected areas of UK law; to consider the impact of Brexit for devolved entities within the UK.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Demonstrate an understanding of the origins of Brexit and the 2016 Referendum
2 Demonstrate an appreciation of the detail of the Brexit withdrawal process, including Article 50 TEU
3 Demonstrate understanding of the impact of Brexit on selected aspects of UK law and on the devolved entities in the UK
4 Demonstrate knowledge of all Brexit related case law, including the Miller judgment
5 Present the acquired knowledge and understanding in a precise form using the appropriate legal language and concepts.

Indicative Module Content
Theme 1: The origins of the Brexit process, the Referendum, ART 50 TEU and the Miller judgement; Theme 2: The Brexit withdrawal process and general impact; Theme 3: Brexit impact on selected areas of UK law; Theme 4: Brexit and the devolved entities

Module Delivery
This is a lecture and seminar based module. Lectures provide core module content. Seminars develop associated higher level skills through student centred learning.
